2 Như thị ngã văn, nhất thời Phật tại Xá vệ quốc, Kỳ thọ Cấp cô độc viên, dữ đại Tỳ kheo tăng,
Thus I have heard, at one time the Buddha dwelt at Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Forlorn, together with a gathering of Great Bhikshus,

Thiên nhị bách ngũ thập nhân câu, giai thị đại A La Hán, chúng sở tri thức:
Twelve-hundred fifty in all, all Great Arhats well-known to the assembly:

Trưởng Lão Xá Lợi Phất, Ma Ha Mục Kiền Liên, Ma Ha Ca Diếp, Ma Ha Ca Chiên Diên, Ma Ha Câu Hy La,
Elders Shariputra, Mahamaudgalyayana, Mahakasyapa, Mahakatyayana, Mahakausthila,

Ly Bà Đa, Châu Lợi Bàn Đà Già, Nan Đà, A Nan Đà, La Hầu La, Kiều Phạm Ba Đề, Tân Đầu Lô Phả La Đọa,
Revata, Suddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ananda, Rahula, Gavampati, Pindola-Bharadvaja,

Ca Lưu Đà Di, Ma Ha Kiếp Tân Na, Bạc Câu La, A Nậu Lâu Đà, như thị đẳng chư đại đệ tử,
Kalodayin, Mahakaphina, Vakkula, Aniruddha, and others such as these, all Great Disciples,

Tinh chư Bồ Tát Ma ha Tát: Văn Thù Sư Lợi Pháp Vương Tử, A Dật Ða Bồ Tát, Càn Ðà Ha Ðề Bồ Tát,
Together with all the Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas: Manjushri, Prince of Dharma, Ajita Bodhisattva, Gandhastin Bodhisattva,

Thường Tinh Tấn Bồ Tát, dữ như thị đẳng chư Ðại Bồ Tát, cập Thích Ðề Hoàn nhân đẳng, vô lượng chư thiên, đại chúng câu.
Nityodukta Bodhisattva, and others such as these, all Great Bodhisattvas, and together with Shakra, Chief among Gods, and the numberless great multitudes from all the heavens.
3 Nhĩ thời Phật cáo Trưởng lão Xá Lợi Phất: Tùng thị Tây phương quá thập vạn ức Phật độ, hữu thế giới danh viết Cực lạc.
At that time, the Buddhas told the Elder Shariputra: From here, passing through hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhalands to the West there is a world called Utmost Happiness.
4 Kỳ độ hữu Phật, hiệu A Di Đà, kim hiện tại thuyết Pháp. Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ độ hà cố danh vi Cực Lạc?
In this land, a Buddha called Amitabha right now teaches the Dharma. Shariputra, why is this land called Utmost Happiness?

Kỳ quốc chúng sanh, vô hữu chúng khổ, đản thọ chư lạc, cố danh Cực lạc.
All living beings of this country never suffer, but enjoy every bliss. Therefore it is called Utmost Happiness.
5 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, Cực lạc quốc độ, thất trùng lan thuẫn, thất trùng la võng, thất trùng hàng thọ,
Moreover, Shariputra, this land of Utmost Happiness is completely surrounded by seven tiers of railings, seven layers of netting, and seven rows of trees,

Giai thị tứ bảo châu táp vi nhiễu, thị cố bỉ quốc danh vi Cực Lạc.
All formed from the four treasures, and for this reason called Utmost Happiness.
6 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, Cực lạc quốc độ hữu thất bảo trì, bát công đức thủy, sung mãn kỳ trung, trì để thuần dĩ kim sa bố địa.
Moreover, Shariputra, in the land of Utmost Happiness are pools of the seven jewels, filled with the waters of eight meritorious qualities; the bottom of each pool is pure, covered with golden sand.

Tứ biên giai đạo, kim, ngân, lưu ly, pha lê hợp thành, thượng hữu lâu các, diệc dĩ kim, ngân, lưu ly, pha lê, xa cừ, xích châu, mã não, nhi nghiêm sức chi.
On the four sides climb stairs of gold, silver, lapus lazuli, crystal, mother-of pearl, rubies, and carnelian.

Trì trung liên hoa, đại như xa luân, thanh sắc thanh quang, hoàng sắc hoàng quang, xích sắc xích quang, bạch sắc bạch quang, vi diệu hương khiết.
In the pools bloom lotuses as large as carriage wheels with colors of green light, yellow light, red light, and white light, subtle, rare, fragrant, and pure.

Xá Lợi Phất, Cực Lạc quốc độ, thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.
Shariputra, the Land of Utmost Happiness is crowned in splendor and virtues such as these.
7 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật quốc độ, thường tác thiên nhạc, hoàng kim vi địa,
Moreover, Shariputra, in this Buddhaland heavenly music always plays, and the ground is made of gold.

Trú dạ lục thời, vũ thiên mạn đà la hoa. Kỳ độ chúng sanh, thường dĩ thanh đán,
In the six periods of the day and night a heavenly rain of mandarava flowers falls, and throughout the clear morning, each living being of this land,

Các dĩ y cách, thịnh chúng diệu hoa cúng dường tha phương thập vạn ức Phật.
Offers sacks filled with myriads of wonderful flowers to the hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas of the other directions.

Tức dĩ thực thời, hoàn đáo bổn quốc, phạn thực kinh hành.
At mealtime they return to their own countries and after eating they walk about.

Xá Lợi Phất, Cực Lạc quốc độ, thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.
Shariputra, the Land of Utmost Happiness is crowned in splendor and virtues such as these.
8 Phục thứ Xá Lợi Phất. Bỉ quốc thường hữu chủng chủng kỳ diệu, tạp sắc chi điểu: Bạch hạc, khổng tước, anh vũ, xá lợi, ca lăng tần già, cộng mệnh chi điểu.
Moreover, Shariputra, in this country there are always rare and unusual birds of many kinds and colors: White geese, cranes, peacocks, parrots, egrets, kalavinkas, and two-headed birds.

Thị chư chúng điểu, trú dạ lục thời, xuất hòa nhã âm.
In the six periods of the day and night the flocks of birds sing forth harmonious and elegant sounds.
9 Kỳ âm diễn xướng: ngũ căn, ngũ lực, thất bồ đề phần, bát thánh đạo phần, như thị đẳng pháp.
Their clear and joyful calls proclaim the Five Roots, the Five Powers, the Seven Limbs of Bodhi, the Eightfold Path of Sages, and dharmas such as these.

Kỳ độ chúng sanh, văn thị âm dĩ, giai tất niệm Phật, niệm Pháp, niệm Tăng.
When living beings of this land hear their calls they are altogether mindful of the Buddha, mindful of the Dharma, and mindful of the Sangha.

Xá Lợi Phất, nhữ vật vị thử điểu, thật thị tội báo sở sanh. Sở dĩ giả hà.
Shariputra! Do not say that these birds are born as retribution for their sins. And why not?
10 Bỉ Phật quốc độ, vô tam ác đạo. Xá Lợi Phất, kỳ Phật quốc độ, thượng vô ác đạo chi danh,
Because in this Buddha’s land the three evil paths do not exist. Shariputra, even the names of the three evil paths are unknown in this Buddha’s land,

Hà huống hữu thật. Thị chư chúng điểu, giai thị A Di Đà Phật, dục linh Pháp âm tuyên lưu, biến hóa sở tác.
How much the less could they actually exist! Wishing to proclaim the Dharma’s sound far and wide, Amitabha Buddha created these multitudes of birds by transformation.
11 Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật quốc độ, vi phong xuy động, chư bảo hàng thụ, cập bảo la võng,
Shariputra, in that Buddha-land when the gentle winds blow, the rows of jewelled trees and jewelled nets

Xuất vi diệu âm, thí như bách thiên chủng nhạc, đồng thời câu tác.
Reverberate with fine and wondrous sounds, as a symphony of one hundred thousand kinds of music played in harmony.
12 Văn thị âm giả, tự nhiên giai sanh niệm Phật, niệm Pháp, niệm Tăng chi tâm.
All who hear these sounds are naturally mindful of the Buddha, mindful of the Dharma, and mindful of the Sangha.

Xá Lợi Phất, kỳ Phật quốc độ, thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.
Shariputra, the Land of Utmost Happiness is crowned in splendor and virtues such as these.
13 Xá lợi phất. Ư nhữ ý vân hà? Bỉ Phật hà cố hiệu A Di Ðà.
Shariputra, what do you think? Why is this Buddha called Amitabha?

Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật quang minh vô lượng.
Shariputra, the brilliance of that Buddha’s light is measureless,

Chiếu thập phương quốc, vô sở chướng ngại, thị cố hiệu vi A Di Đà.
Illuminating the lands of the ten directions everywhere without obstruction, for this reason he is called Amitabha.
14 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật thọ mạng, cập kỳ nhân dân, vô lượng vô biên A Tăng Kỳ kiếp. Cố danh A Di Đà.
Moreover, Shariputra, the lifespan of that Buddha and that of his people extends for measureless, limitless asamkheya kalpas (asamkhyeyas of eons); For this reason he is called Amitayus.

Xá Lợi Phất, A Di Đà Phật thành Phật dĩ lai, ư kim thập kiếp.
And Shariputra, since Amitabha became a Buddha, ten eons have passed.
15 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật hữu vô lượng vô biên Thanh Văn đệ tử, giai A La Hán,
Moreover, Shariputra, that Buddha has measureless, limitless ‘Sound-hearer’ disciples, all Arhats,

Phi thị toán số chi sở năng tri. Chư Bồ Tát chúng, diệc phục như thị.
Their number incalculable; thus also is the assembly of Bodhisattvas.

Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ Phật quốc độ, thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.
Shariputra, that Buddhaland is crowned in splendor and virtues such as these.

Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, Cực Lạc quốc độ, chúng sanh sanh giả, giai thị A Bệ Bạt Trí.
Moreover, Sariputra, those living beings born in the land of the Ultimate Bliss are all Avaivartika.

Kỳ trung đa hữu nhất sanh bổ xứ. Kỳ số thậm đa,
Among them are many who in this very life will dwell in Buddhahood. Their number is extremely many;

Phi thị toán số sở năng tri chi, đãn khả dĩ vô lượng vô biên A Tăng Kỳ thuyết.
It is incalculable and only in measureless, limitless asamkyeyas of eons could they be counted.
16 Xá Lợi Phất, chúng sanh văn giả, ưng đương phát nguyện, nguyện sanh bỉ quốc.
Shariputra, those living beings who hear of this should vow, ‘I wish to be born in that country.’

Sở dĩ giả hà? Đắc dữ như thị chư thượng thiện nhân câu hội nhất xứ.
And why? Because those who are born there assemble in one place with people whose goodness is unsurpassed.

Xá Lợi Phất, bất khả dĩ thiểu thiện căn phước đức nhân duyên, đắc sanh bỉ quốc.
Shariputra, if one has few good roots, blessings, and virtues, one cannot be born in that land.

Xá Lợi Phất, nhược hữu thiện nam tử thiện nữ nhân, văn thuyết A Di Đà Phật, chấp trì danh hiệu,
Shariputra, if there is a good man or good woman who hears of Amitabha and holds his name,

Nhược nhất nhật, nhược nhị nhật, nhược tam nhật, nhược tứ nhật, nhược ngũ nhật, nhược lục nhật, nhược thất nhật, nhất tâm bất loạn.
Whether for one day, two days, three, four, five days, six days, as long as seven days with one mind unconfused.
17 Kỳ nhân lâm mạng chung thời, A Di Đà Phật, dữ chư Thánh Chúng, hiện tại kỳ tiền.
When this person approaches the end of life, before him will appear Amitabha and all the assembly of Holy Ones.

Thị nhân chung thời, tâm bất điên đảo, tức đắc vãng sanh A Di Đà Phật Cực Lạc quốc độ.
When the end comes, his mind will not be utterly confused, and in Amitabha’s Land of Utmost Happiness he will quickly be reborn.

Xá Lợi Phất, ngã kiến thị lợi cố thuyết thử ngôn, nhược hữu chúng sanh văn thị thuyết giả ưng đương phát nguyện sanh bỉ quốc độ.
Shariputra, because I see this benefit, I speak these words; and, if living beings hear this teaching they should make the vow: “I wish to be born in that land.”
18 Xá Lợi Phất, như ngã kim giả, tán thán A Di Đà Phật bất khả tư nghì công đức chi lợi.
Shariputra, just as I now praise the inconceivable benefits from the merit and virtue of Amitabha,

Đông Phương diệc hữu A Súc Bệ Phật, Tu Di Tướng Phật, Đại Tu Di Phật, Tu Di Quang Phật, Diệu Âm Phật,
So too in the East do Aksobya Buddha, Sumeru Appearance Buddha, Great Sumeru Buddha, Sumeru Light Buddha, Wonderful Sound Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound

Biến phú Tam Thiên Đại Thiên Thế Giới, thuyết thành thật ngôn.
That pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds, and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’

Xá Lợi Phất, Nam Phương thế giới hữu Nhật Nguyệt Đăng Phật, Danh Văn Quang phật, Đại Diệm Kiên Phật, Tu Di Đăng Phật, Vô Lượng Tinh Tấn Phật,
Shariputra, in the Southern World, Sun-Moon Lamp Buddha, Sumeru Lamp Buddha, Celebrated Light Buddha, Great Radiant Shoulders Buddha, Measureless Vigor Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam thiên đại thiên thế giới thuyết thành thật ngôn:
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound that pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’

Xá Lợi Phất, Tây Phương thế giới hữu Vô Lượng Thọ Phật, Vô Lượng Tướng phật, Vô Lượng Tràng Phật, Đại Quang Phật, Đại Minh Phật, Bảo Tướng Phật, Tịnh Quang Phật,
Shariputra, in the Western World, Measureless Life Buddha, Infinite Features Buddha, Measureless Curtain Buddha, Great Light Buddha, Great Clarity Buddha, Jeweled Appearance Buddha, Pure Light Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam thiên đại thiên thế giới, thuyết thành thật ngôn:
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound that pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’

Xá Lợi Phất, Bắc Phương thế giới hữu Diệm Kiên Phật, Tối Thắng Âm Phật, Nan Trở Phật, Nhật Sanh Phật, Võng Minh Phật,
Shariputra, in the Northern World, Radiant Shoulders Buddha, Most Glorious Sound Buddha, Invincible Buddha, Sun-Birth Buddha, Luminous Net Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam thiên đại thiên thế giới, thuyết thành thật ngôn:
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound that pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’

Xá Lợi Phất, Hạ Phương thế giới hữu Sư Tử Phật, Danh Văn Phật, Danh Quang Phật, Đạt Ma Phật, Pháp Tràng Phật, Trì Pháp Phật,
Shariputra, in the World Below, Lion Buddha, Well-Known Buddha, Famous Light Buddha, Dharma Buddha, Dharma-Curtain Buddha, Upholding Dharma Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam thiên đại thiên thế giới, thuyết thành thật ngôn:
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound that pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’
19 Xá Lợi Phất, Thượng Phương thế giới hữu Phạm Âm Phật, Tú Vương Phật, Hương Thượng Phật, Hương Quang Phật, Ðại Diệm Kiên Phật, Tạp Sắc Bảo Hoa Nghiêm Thân Phật, Ta La Thọ Vương Phật, Bảo Hoa Ðức Phật, Kiến Nhất Thiết Nghĩa Phật, Như Tu Di Sơn Phật,
Shariputra, in the World Above, Pure Sound Buddha, Constellation King Buddha, Superior Fragrance Buddha, Fragrant Light Buddha, Great Radiant Shoulders Buddha, Vari-coloured Jewels and Flower Adorned Body Buddha, Sala Tree King Buddha, Jeweled Flower Virtue Buddha, Vision of All Meaning Buddha, Like Sumeru Mountain Buddha,

Như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam thiên đại thiên thế giới, thuyết thành thật ngôn:
All Buddhas such as these, numberless as Ganges’ sands, each in his own country gives forth a vast and far-reaching sound that pervades the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds and proclaims these sincere and honest words:

Nhữ đẳng chúng sanh, đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh.
‘All you living beings should believe in this sutra which all Buddhas praise for its inconceivable merit and virtue, a sutra they protect and bear in mind.’
20 Xá lợi phất, ư nhữ ý vân hà. Hà cố danh vi nhất thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm Kinh?
Shariputra, what do you think? Why is it called Sutra which all Buddhas protect and bear in mind?

Xá Lợi Phất, nhược hữu thiện nam tử thiện nữ nhân, văn thị Kinh thọ trì giả, cập văn chư Phật danh giả
Shariputra, if a good man or good woman hears this sutra and upholds it, and hears the names of all these Buddhas,

Thị chư thiện nam tử, thiện nữ nhân, giai vi nhất thiết chư Phật chi sở hộ niệm, giai đắc bất thối chuyển ư A nậu đa la tam miệu tam bồ đề.
This good man or good woman will also be one whom all Buddhas protect and bear in mind, and will attain non-retreat from anuttarasamyaksambodhi.

Thị cố Xá Lợi Phất, nhữ đẳng giai đương tín thọ ngã ngữ, cập chư Phật sở thuyết.
Therefore, Shariputra, all of you should believe and accept my words and those which all Buddhas speak.
21 Xá Lợi Phất, nhược hữu nhân dĩ phát nguyện, kim phát nguyện, đương phát nguyện, dục sanh A Di Đà Phật quốc giả,
Shariputra, if there are people who have already made the vow, who now make the vow, or who will make the vow: “I wish to be born in Amitabha’s country”,

Thị chư nhân đẳng, giai đắc bất thối chuyển ư A nậu đa la tam miệu tam bồ đề, ư bỉ quốc độ nhược dĩ sanh, nhược kim sanh, nhược đương sanh.
These people, whether born in the past, now being born there, or to be born there in the future, will all attain non-retreat from anuttara-samyaksambodhi.

Thị cố Xá Lợi Phất, chư thiện nam tử thiện nữ nhân, nhược hữu tín giả ưng đương phát nguyện, sanh bỉ quốc độ.
Therefore, Shariputra, all good men and good women who believe should make the vow: “I wish to be born in that country.”
22 Xá Lợi Phất, như ngã kim giả, xưng tán chư Phật bất khả tư nghì công đức; Bỉ chư Phật đẳng, diệc xưng tán ngã bất khả tư nghì công đức, nhi tác thị ngôn,
Shariputra, just as I now praise the inconceivable merit and virtue of all Buddhas, all those Buddhas also praise my inconceivable merit and virtue, saying these words:

Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật năng vi thậm nan hi hữu chi sự, năng ư Ta Bà quốc độ, ngũ trược ác thế:
Shakyamuni Buddha can accomplish extremely difficult and rare deeds in the Saha Land during the evil time of the Five Turbidities:
23 Kiếp trược, kiến trược, phiền não trược, chúng sanh trược, mạng trược trung,
during the time turbidity, the views turbidity, the affliction turbidity, the living beings turbidity, and the life turbidity.

Ðắc A nậu đa la tam miệu tam bồ đề, vị chư chúng sanh, thuyết thị nhất thiết thế gian nan tín chi pháp.
He can attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi and, for the sake of living beings, speak this Dharma, which the whole world finds hard to believe.

Xá Lợi Phất, đương tri ngã ư ngũ trược ác thế, hành thử nan sự,
Shariputra, you should know that I, in the evil time of the Five Turbidities, perform these difficult deeds,

Đắc A Nậu Đa La Tam Miệu Tam Bồ Đề, vị nhất thiết thế gian thuyết thử nan tín chi pháp, thị vi thậm nan.
Attain anuttarasamyaksambodhi, and for the entire world, speak this Dharma, which is difficult to believe, extremely difficult!
24 Phật thuyết thử kinh dĩ, Xá lợi phất cập chư Ty kheo, nhất thiết thế gian, Thiên, Nhân, A tu la đẳng,
After the Buddha spoke this Sutra, Shariputra, all the Bhikshus, and the entire world of gods, humans, asuras,

Văn Phật sở thuyết, hoan hỉ tín thọ, tác lễ nhi khứ.
And others, hearing what the Buddha had said, joyously delighted in it, faithfully accepted it, bowed and withdrew.
